The selling point of conservatism in this regard is that the core area of the ideology is dependant on observable fact. I do not realize why conservatives want to latch onto very minority medical positions (which are probably incorrect) on the weather changes or onto positions that are completely clinically untenable on advancement (six times, recent origins). It is not my ideology – however when the facts suggest that I am wrong I am very happy to retreat. If you are unhappy to retreat you matter yourself out of serious debate then. I believe we can assume (on the strong balance of probability) that CO2 emissions cause global warming.

I am not sure we can believe that something effective will be achieved about any of it – or even that it is possible within today’s global overall economy do to anything effective about it. But there’s a good probability that government authorities shall try. The way they try is going to dramatically change the investment horizon – and it might do this in strange ways. For example in Europe greenhouse gas quotas received to large carbon emitters – and for a while the best way to generate income was to choose the company with the worst emissions problem.

Because the quotas were well worth more than the commercial base, they had to shut. I do not want to provoke a debate about whether the human-triggered greenhouse impact is real – I believe that is pretty likely – but this blog is entirely unlikely to contribute in virtually any significant way to the issue.

I am not a relevantly trained scientist and nor are most of my visitors. What I do want to provoke is an issue about how the governmental reaction to greenhouse changes the investment horizon. I may not enjoy it – but if the incentives are for me personally to buy the ugliest most polluting industry since it is a beneficiary of authorities’ action then I can do it.
